Australia is a land like no other. With its diverse landscape and rich culture, it offers something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in nature, history, or city life, you can find it Down Under. Whilst I haven’t been just yet, I have been researching it a lot recently as we are seriously considering visiting there soon. This quick tour of Australia is a compilation of my must-sees, including a few top-tips that I have discovered.
Sydney
To start off our quick tour of Australia, we head to it’s largest city and home to the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Sydney is an exciting destination for travellers of all ages. Take a tour of the harbour in a sailboat or enjoy some of the many cultural attractions such as the Royal Botanic Garden and Art Gallery of New South Wales. Also, don’t forget to check out the exciting bars and nightlife and world-class restaurants.
Melbourne
Home to one of Australia’s most vibrant art scenes, Melbourne features many galleries and museums along with its lively music scene. Visit Federation Square for public art displays or take a tram ride around town to explore the city’s unique architecture. Also, don’t miss out on Attica, famously one of the best restaurants in the world.
Great Ocean Road
A quick tour of Australia done properly involves a road trip. Perhaps the most iconic of which, the Great Ocean Road, offers stunning ocean views. There are also beautiful beaches, rainforest hikes, and more. Visit the Twelve Apostles rock formations or take a walk along the beach to admire the cliffs. Also, don’t miss out on the native wildlife such as kangaroos and emus!
Uluru
Uluru is an iconic sandstone rock formation in Australia’s Northern Territory. Visitors can explore aboriginal art galleries, learn about traditional culture, or simply enjoy incredible views of this World Heritage-listed site. Emu Run Uluru tours offer visitors a unique way to explore the area and would be ideal as part of a quick tour of Australia.
Queensland Coastline
Stretching up the east coast of Australia, Queensland offers a range of beaches and rainforests for travellers to explore. Take a surfing lesson on the Gold Coast or snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef for an unforgettable experience. I know that my husband in particular would love to dive here. As it is just down the road, don’t forget to check out the fun and lively city of Brisbane!
Kakadu National Park
Located just two hours from Darwin, Kakadu National Park is Australia’s largest tropical national park. It offers countless experiences from breath-taking gorges and wetlands to ancient Aboriginal rock art. I’ve heard a lot of good things about guided tours to fully appreciate the beauty of this massive World Heritage-listed area. This is also apparently prime crocodile-spotting territory.
Tasmania
Tasmania is an island off the southern coast of Australia with dramatic landscapes and charming towns. The capital city, Hobart, is one of Australia’s oldest cities and home to popular attractions such as Salamanca Market and MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). Explore nearby wild beaches or take a day trip to Bruny Island for some incredible wildlife spotting opportunities. I personally would love to visit to the world-famous Wineglass Bay.
Things to remember
As I am planning my quick tour of Australia, just a heads up that you’ll need to obtain a visa before entering the country. I would also completely recommend getting travel insurance and check local safety regulations before heading out on your adventure. Lastly, research is key. Whilst this guide features the ‘best of’, definitely get planning an in-depth itinerary. It will really make a difference to your trip.
