Christmas is fast approaching and, if you are like me, likelihood is you want to get organised! I always look forward to a Christmas lunch in the season. I personally love doing it on Christmas Eve to get yourself ready for the big day. Now though is the time to get a booking and I have put together a list of some tried and tested examples of a Christmas lunch in Henley-on-Thames. I’ve tried to include all of the new information for 2023, but if I have missed anything, just let me know.
Best Places for a Christmas Lunch in Henley-on-Thames
The Three Tuns
A local favourite, the Three Tuns never disappoints when it comes to food. Whilst their kitchen is closed on Christmas Day this year, they do have a festive menu available on their website. The menu runs from the 27th of November to the 29th of December, with a 3 course meal going for £34.95. I personally love the food here and would recommend it. Plus, the shin of beef or the turkey sounds too good to miss.
The Bull on Bell Street
When Jack and I first began to date, the Bull was always our favourite. This year, their Christmas menu is exactly what you would expect of a Henley pub. Their festive menu runs throughout December and features some delicious options. Whilst it is a bit more expensive than the Three Tuns (3 courses for £41.95), there is slightly more choice. Their kitchen is also open on Christmas Day this year and has a special menu. This one features five courses for £100.00 a head.
The Angel on the Bridge
Whilst famous for Regatta, the Angel on the Bridge also presents their very own Christmas Menu. This runs from the 28th of November to the 22nd of December, with three courses going for £35.00. The menu is quite extensive and features some interesting main courses. The brie and chestnut wellington for one sounds incredible and I cannot wait to try it. A good value option for a Christmas Lunch in Henley-on-Thames.
The Little Angel
Just over the bridge is the Little Angel, who are offering two menus this year. Their Set Menu is for groups larger than six and offers three courses, a side, and treacle soda bread as well as mince pies for £41.50. If your group is smaller than six, they also will offer a similar menu (not on their website yet). Their food is always fantastic and their Christmas Menu sounds incredible. In particular, I am looking forward to trying their ‘legendary’ mince pies; a very bold claim.
Outside of Town
The George and the Dragon, Wargrave
Just ten minutes from Henley is the sleepy village of Wargrave, which is very near to my heart. Here is one of my favourite pubs, the George and the Dragon. They have incredible views over the Thames and are offering multiple menus depending on the day. In the build up to Christmas, they offer a three course menu for £32.95, which is the cheapest on the list. On the big day, the menu changes slightly and you can enjoy five courses for £84.95. Lastly, there is a three course Boxing Day menu for £36.95.
The Plough, Shiplake
Whilst again not technically not a Christmas lunch in Henley-on-Thames, the village of Shiplake is not too far away either. They offer three courses for £37.50 and their Christmas Menu runs from the 15th of November at lunchtime, Wednesday to Saturday. Their menu is slightly smaller than the other places on this list, but still looks very tasty.
