Don’t you love finding hidden paths and chasing waterfalls? Quite literally in this case! 💦

Meet Aysgarth Falls, legendary filming location of Robin Hood and one of the prettiest places in all of England. I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen a more mystical place in all of the country and I loved chilling here on our Northern England Road Trip! 🚗

If you are planning to visit, just be warned that there is a fairly steep road on the way to the falls. If you have mobility issues, make sure you get somebody to drive you down further! 🥾

WHAT IS THERE TO SEE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT? 1) Lak

WHAT IS THERE TO SEE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT?

1) Lakes Windermere and Buttermere are both must-sees, along with their respective towns / villages. If you can, take a boat trip across. 🚤

2) Drive around the quaint lanes and enjoy the lesser-seen parts of the Lake District. Keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels and be wowed by the landscape. 🐿️

3) Make sure that you see Beatrix Potter World. This charming part of England was the author’s main inspiration for Peter Rabbit and other friends 🐰

4) There are just so many hikes to do and scenes to enjoy. One of my favourite views was the Humber Pass. This drive here isn’t for the faint of heart, but it is exciting! If you like mountains, also see Scaffell Pike ⛰️

5) There are plenty National Trust properties in the area, which are always great days out. For example, Aira Force waterfall and Sizergh 🏡

A SHORT NORTH ENGLAND ITINERARY 🚘 🇬🇧

Day 1 - Drive up to Lincoln via Knebworth.

Day 2 - Head towards Hull. Then cross the Humber Bridge to Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough Head.

Day 3 - From there, explore Scarborough and the famous Moors. Then enjoy coastal scenery at Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby.

Day 4 - Spend the morning in Staithes before driving up to historic Durham.

Day 5 - Start in Alnwick Castle, before driving up to see both Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle.

Day 6 / 7 - Enjoy a more relaxed time around the Lake District. Make sure you see Buttermere and take a boat trip around Windermere.

Day 8 - Drive to Richmond via Middleham. Along the way, see the Ribblehead Viaduct and Ayesgarth Falls.

Day 9 - Dive into the Peak District. A highlight has to be an afternoon in Chatsworth House.

Day 10 - Head Home.

Could this be my new favourite view in the UK? 🇬🇧

This is Steel Rigg, one of the best viewpoints along Hadrian’s Wall and the start of the path that takes you to the famous Sycamore Gap… Even if there sadly isn’t a tree there now! 🌳 💔

Even though we managed to see this beautiful sight before it was tragically cut down, the most exciting part had to be the walk and the build up. That began here at this point. ⛰️

If you want to do the walk (which I would certainly suggest still), then there is a relatively large car park here. You will have to pay and display, but it is worth every penny 🪙

Let’s go to the beach ⛱️

One of the most beautiful beaches in the UK has to be that next to Bamburgh Castle, made famous for being Bebbanburg in the Last Kingdom Series. 🗡️

The beach seems to go on for miles and is a great place for a picnic. However, my favourite bit has to be the dunes and grassland that surrounds it. It feels as if you have gotten lost somewhere and it’s really exciting exploring all the different paths here. 🧭

If you are looking for a beach day in Northumberland, this is easily (in my humble opinion) the best option. 😌
