The Cosy Club is a chain of restaurants in the UK, which promises a ‘relaxed atmosphere’ all the whilst enjoying a ‘touch of timeless glamour’. With that in mind, and the fact that I love being cosy, I just had to check out our local branch. The restaurant only opened in October and I was eager to see what all the fuss was about. Here is my Cosy Club Oxford review; enjoy!
Cosy Club Oxford Review
Getting There
The location of the Cosy Club Oxford is ideal. It is in Cornmarket, which is about a five minute walk from Westgate. There is a car park at this shopping centre, but be warned that it is pricey. Another alternative is to park at the Park and Ride, which is cheaper but you need to obviously get the bus. I personally think that the best location for this is at Redbridge.
If you are travelling by train to Oxford, you will probably need to get a taxi from the station. Otherwise, you will have a fair walk on your hands to the centre of the city.
Cosy Club Atmosphere and Decorations
I instantly fell in love with the interior of the Cosy Club Oxford. It was as if French baroque and 1920s New York had a baby.
The main event is on the first floor. The entrance is just a small foyer with an inviting staircase. On the walls are paintings of what seem to be people from the 1800s, but in a highly cosmopolitan twist.
When we climbed up the stairs, we got a better view of the lounge. Richly-coloured sofas, mood lighting, classic wood – it just seemed like a cool place to be. Again, that 1920s style just radiated through. Even the outfits worn by the staff went with the vibe, especially the velvet suits.
Initial impressions were that it was a very cool and sophisticated place to be. It was very busy this Saturday afternoon, but when it’s only been open for 3 weeks, that is never a bad thing.
Cosy Club Food & Drink
The part you’ve been waiting for in this Cosy Club Oxford review; the food. The menu is actually quite comprehensive. You have all-day brunch and a mixture of classic pub / French bistro cuisine. To make the most of this, I ordered an alcohol-free Italian Spritz. Do yourself a favour and order this when you go; you won’t regret it.
Starters
To begin with, I decided to go for the mozzarella and tomato arancini. They arrived beautifully presented, with a highly generous shaving of parmesan cheese on top. Whilst the dish was small, it was really tasty and almost luxurious. It also looked quite festive, which I really enjoyed. Jack went for the fried halloumi. Cut into isosceles triangles upon a bed of orange aioli, these looked the part. There was also a pot of sweet chilli jam. They tasted divine and it was hard to even try to steal a bite!
Main Course
On to the main course. I took a more fine-dining approach and opted for their seabass. This beautifully fried piece of fish was served in a creamy sauce, which contained peas and pieces of bacon. Alongside it were roast potatoes, which made for the perfect companion. The meal tasted divine and it was just so light. I was a very happy customer.
Jack took a more casual approach to dining and went for their signature dirty chicken burger. What makes it dirty you ask? The chicken is cooked in panko breadcrumbs, which have a generous sprinkling of flavour. The crust almost tasted like a chilli heatwave dorito! The burger also had another patty; a giant mac and cheese fritter. The burger also had a generous amount of aioli, lettuce, bacon, pickled slaw and tomato, and was served with fries. A massive meal, but he finished it all!
Desserts
Last but not least was the dessert. Being rather full, we went for a small palette cleanser. I went for the raspberry sorbet, which was rich and tasty. Just what I needed after a large meal. Jack went for the salted caramel chocolate mousse, served with a giant slab of chocolate. I don’t know how he managed it after the burger, but the fact that it looked and tasted incredible probably made a difference.
Cosy Club Service
I thought that the service was excellent all-round. From the moment we entered the room, I felt welcomed. The waiter at the front desk was highly polite and served us even when we arrived slightly earlier than our booking.
Throughout our meal we mostly had one waitress. She was excellent and would recommend various dishes throughout. We also had comments after we had ordered reassuring our choices and letting us know what would go well with it.
Overall, I thought that the service was spectacular. Even though the place was heaving, we were made to feel important which only added to our dining experience.
The Verdict
The final part of my Cosy Club Oxford review is the verdict. I highly recommend you go and try this place out. The food is amazing and you will just feel cool and sophisticated throughout. I am looking forward to our next visit where I will definitely try and tackle the infamous dirty burger. Wish me luck!
