Since a young age, I have well and truly had the travel bug. I love all aspects of it, be that meeting new cultures or exploring new places. At this time of year, I have put together my ultimate gift guide for explorers. It features some equipment that I could not go without and others that I wish that I had. If you have a somebody who loves travelling in your life, this one is for you.
Gift Guide for Explorers: What to Get a Keen Traveller [2022]
Canon DSLR Camera
This is one of the most expensive item on the list! I love my camera (Canon EOS M3) and take it literally everywhere I go. Whilst the camera itself is an investment, on the gift guide for explorers this is a must-have. What is better than collecting lots of different pictures and then displaying them? I also love adding new lenses to the camera so that I can get alternative shots.
Personally, photography is one of my favourite hobbies. If you have a keen traveller in your life, a DSLR Camera is the ultimate gift to get them.
Adobe Creative Cloud
We use Adobe regularly in our life. Mostly, it is used for Photoshop and Lightroom, but I have been known to dabble in Premiere Pro and After Effects. For just over £20.00 a month, this package gives any travel-enthusiast the perfect tool kit. If you are looking for a more-budget option, Adobe let you pick and choose packages to suit you.
Top tip: Only buy the full Adobe Creative Cloud package if you will get a full year out of it. There is a cancellation fee which is relatively steep.
DJI Mini 2 Camera Drone
Now I do not have one of these, but it still features on my gift guide for explorers. To say I badly want one is an understatement. Complete with a 12mp camera and capable of 4K video, this drone is perfect for all travel-enthusiasts. It is also really small and lightweight, so can be taken anywhere with you. The price is also very reasonable for a drone and starts at £369.00 at the time of writing. You can also buy the DJI Mini 2 Camera Dron bundle which includes a handy travel case. I again hope to have one of these by the end of next year, to really add to my photography.
Scratch Map
I love documenting where I go and in my home office I have a Scratch Map. I really love adding to it with each new country I visit. It acts as a reminder of places I’ve been and could serve as a talking point for guests. The cost of it is really good too and will set you back around £15-20. I personally like mine in a frame so that it features as art in my home.
Passport Cover
Whilst quite cliché, my gift guide for explorers wouldn’t be complete without passport covers and luggage tags. You can get so many different varieties on Etsy nowadays. I actually bought some on Etsy for my Bridesmaids and I and was really pleased with them. It also adds a bit of personality to your travel. Definitely worth the investment!
National Trust Membership (or similar)
If you are planning staycations, then let my gift guide for explorers tempt you to a National Trust membership. I personally love this as it gives you different options across the UK. Wherever you are, there will be tonnes of day trips out with the National Trust, Historic Houses etc. It also more than makes up for the value with the sheer number of trips you could do. Personally, I feel it is well worth every penny.
Packing Cubes
If you are slightly mad and love packing (like me) then packing cubes could change your life. I personally love the puzzle that comes with packing and the cubes make it that much more satisfying. They also help train my husband in how to pack properly.
Power Banks
The number of times a camera or phone has ran out of battery… No travel-lover should be without one of these. I take them with me wherever I go, be that in the UK or abroad. They really help and are very cheap too. On Amazon, you can get a very decent one for between £20-30. A power bank is easily one of the best investments on this gift guide.
Lonely Planet Guides
If you often find yourself looking for inspiration, then look no further than the Lonely Planet Guides. This time of year, when the weather is cold and miserable, it helps to transport yourself abroad. I have personally bought a few different copies of these and love browsing through them. They do a range of destinations too so you can really inspire yourself.
Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Next up on my gift guide for explorers are noise-cancelling headphones. On a long-haul flight, I just want to zone out and watch films. Having these lets me do that, just without the distraction of other people. A sound investment for a keen traveller or somebody who works abroad a lot.
Scrapbook
Making scrapbooks is one of my favourite activities. I get all of my photos printed and make a book about each year of my life. I then can keep them for the future. If you have somebody in your life who loves taking photos, seriously consider this. You could buy them some blank books from Hobbycraft or Amazon as well as the different stationary. You could also mix it with…
Polaroid Camera
The Fujifilm Instax camera (other options are available) is perfect for making scrapbooks. It is a polaroid camera so you get the picture straight away. Whilst not as high-quality as a DSLR, it does give you versatility in your shoots. It also adds fun to taking different photos. If you want quick, ready-printed photos, this is for you.
I hope that you found my gift guide for explorers useful. There are so many different things to include, but I wanted to keep it readable and manageable. I will update this each year too, so that you have an up-to-date list for that explorer in your life.
