On my latest trip abroad I was offered the chance to review the executive lounge in Heathrow Terminal 5 prior to my departure. Needless to say this was an offer I couldn’t refuse. More importantly, I was very much looking forward to starting my holiday in style.
Introduction to Airport Lounges
I usually travel on a budget, and tend not to fork out on too many luxuries,. However, I have been lucky enough to use a handful of airport lounges around the world. I have always found myself feeling far more relaxed and less stressed when I start a trip in the relative comfort and serenity of a lounge. I am not a huge fan of the hustle and bustle of departures. In particular, rushing around the shops and finding myself tempted by far too many Duty-Free bargains.
The Lounge
My flight to Berlin was pretty early in the morning. Even still, Heathrow was very busy, as it was the first day of the Christmas Holidays. Passing through security and avoiding the temptation of Duty-Free, I bee-lined for the executive lounge and checked in. Compared to the craziness of departures, the lounge was a little oasis of calm.
Entering the lounge, I was greeted and welcomed by the staff. I was then ushered into the lounge where a selection of (edible) goodies awaited me. Breakfast time was approaching, so having bagsied my table, I made my way to the food to see what would tempt my taste-buds. The choice wasn’t huge but there was a varied selection of hot and cold drinks. There was tea, coffee, juice, squash, as well as a bar serving alcohol. Food-wise, there was a range of snacks, from crisps and peanuts to cereal, muffins, croissants, waffles and the like as well as fresh fruit. It couldn’t quite be considered a meal but it was a nice addition nonetheless!
During the wait, one could access a selection of newspapers and magazines. There was also a free Wi-Fi connection, and had I have needed other facilities, there were also business amenities available.
The Heathrow Terminal 5 Executive Lounge is available for 3 hours prior to your flight time and is priced at £29.99. I think that when you consider the free Wi-Fi, snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages it is a fair price. Personally, the best part for me was the peace and tranquillity prior to my flight. If you want to start your holiday in a relaxing way, this lounge is the way to go.
