Having completed my final university exam two weeks ago, I can now give my 2015 travel plans full concentration – something I have been itching to do for months!
I have now packed up and officially left my flat down in Southampton, where I studied Modern Languages and European Studies (don’t worry, I don’t know what it is either and it’s my degree), and am back at home ready for setting off on the various adventures I have planned for this summer.
In just a few days time I will be making my way to Gatwick ready to hop aboard a flight which will take me to the gorgeous Portuguese island of Madeira. Madeira is an archipelago made up of four islands, located in the Atlantic off the northwest coast of Africa. It is possibly best known as the home for its namesake wine, and its warm, subtropical climate. It also holds an attraction for nature lovers, offering hiking trails along the old levadas (aqueducts) in the mountains, as well as surfing and scuba diving off the coast.
A quick turnaround once I’m back in the UK, (precisely two days), before it’s back to the airport and off on my next trip – a city break in the Euro-Asian melting pot, and cosmopolitan city of Istanbul. I am so excited at the thought of exploring the city and absorbing the rich cultural and historic atmosphere, not to mention trying some of the delicacies. Of course the trip would not be complete without making the crossing over to the Asian side of the Bosphorus!
It will then be time to head back home for a short but sweet luxury UK getaway to York, which is actually a prize I won in a competition. I am really looking forward to some VIP treatment including a stay in a 5* hotel, entrance to all the city’s sights and, something I am particularly looking forward to, traditional English Afternoon Tea at York’s local tea-and-cake institution.
You would think that’s enough but oh no! Just days after my official graduation ceremony I will be setting off on my travels once again, on a whistle stop tour of Northern Europe. The itinerary follows the route through the following cities – Brussels, Lübeck, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Göteborg, Hamburg (with excursions to Kiel and Bremen) and finally, Düsseldorf, where I spent my Year Abroad.
After that nothing else is planned just yet, as I have a job to find, but we shall see where the world takes me.
If you have any tips for Madeira, Istanbul or any of the stops on my European Itinerary I would love to hear from you!
Happy Travels,
