A new year calls for new adventures, and as 2016 is now here – belated Happy New Year to you all by the way – I thought I’d put myself together a bucket list for the year ahead.
There are so many places that I would love to visit, and my complete bucket list gets longer and longer each and every year, but I must admit that I am a bit of a planner and I love to have trips to look forward to. So, I have decided to put together a hit list of destinations to visit in 2016 in order to try and give my travel plans some sort of focus, although I will, of course, never turn down the opportunity to head off on a spontaneous getaway!
So, here is my 2016 travel bucket list!
* * *
Santorini, Greece
The charming Greek island of Santorini has appealed to me for quite some time and has been sitting at the top of my bucket list for a number of years. However I am determined to make 2016 the year that I finally visit! I cannot wait to explore the winding white-washed streets, relax on the black volcanic sand beaches and of course witness the famous ‘Santorini sunset’ with my own eyes.
Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is my first booked-up trip of 2016 and I have already begun planning my short stay in the Czech capital and adding to my scarf collection for what is bound to be cold weather! I am looking forward to seeing the city’s main attractions; the gothic old city square, the impressive castle and making the crossing over Charles Bridge as the sun sets, to name just a few. I’m also compiling a list of traditional Czech specialities to tantalize my taste buds and expand my knowledge of European cuisine.
Iceland
It seems that in recent years the volcanic island of Iceland has gained acclaim and popularity amongst travellers and I can certainly understand why. From the colourful roofed houses of cosmopolitan Reykjavik, to the breath-taking scenery and pounding waterfalls, to the luxurious thermal baths of the Blue Lagoon, I know that Iceland is somewhere I would fall in love with straight away.
Boston, United States
After visiting New York for the first time back in 2013 I have been eager to return to the States and discover more of its cities. A friend of mine is currently studying in Boston, so I think that that is excuse enough for my boyfriend and I to head across the pond and tick off some new places. As well as Boston, I would love to revisit the Big Apple and explore some of New England’s wonderful countryside and coastline.
Hong Kong
The reality of making it to Hong Kong this year is pretty slim … but a girl can dream! Quite recently a friend of mine visited the metropolis and having seen her collection of photos, I became completely obsessed with the place. The city’s tower-studded skyline is astounding and I only dream of seeing Victoria Harbour lit up by night. As a self-confessed foodie, Hong Kong’s food scene is also on my radar and I am set and ready to take on everything from Cantonese dim sum to extravagant high tea.
Bristol, UK
Slightly closer to home is the city of Bristol, somewhere I remember visiting as a child, but now as a fully-fledged adult, is somewhere I would love to revisit. A close friend of mine knows Bristol well, having studied there, and I have wrung her dry for ideas of how to spend a weekend in the city; from strolling across the Clifton suspension bridge, parading down the quaint Christmas steps, to indulging my senses in St Nick’s market (yes, more food!) – All that needs doing now is to book something up!
I hope you enjoyed my bucket list for 2016 and if you have any tips or local knowledge for anywhere that I mentioned, or perhaps have some more suggestions, then by all means share them with me in the comments below.
Also, I’d love to hear where you have on your bucket list for this year – an exotic island paradise, a cultural city break or perhaps an escape into the countryside?
Last but not least, I’d like to nominate a few of my fellow bloggers to share their dream destination(s) of 2016 as part of Ice Lolly’s #SendMeAway competition – Jessica (Journeys with Jessica), Emma (Paper Planes & Caramel Waffles), Rachel (The World In A Weekend) and Maaike (Travellous World) – can’t wait to read your posts girls!

Yes, Hong Kong 😀 You need to go, it’s an amazing place! I’ve also got Iceland in my sights for this year too so hopefully I’ll make it there. Thank you for nominating me too, I’m not sure I’ll be able to enter since I work there but I can give it a go right? 😉
Haha yes, I wasn’t quite sure how that would work but thought I would nominate you anyway! At the very least it would be interesting to find out what’s on your travel list for 2016 🙂 Fingers crossed that I can tick off some of these by the end of the year – I will definitely have to get saving..!
Great list!! Good luck in getting to each of these places. I have only been to Santorini and Boston from this list. Highly recommend Naxos which is fairly close to Santorini. Amazing beaches! Which is nice since Santorini is a volcanic island and doesn’t have the white sand beaches you can find in Naxos. Also check out “Drink” in Boston. It is an awesome cocktail bar.
Looks like a great list. Apart from Prague I haven’t been to any of those places. Happy travels. http://www.postcardsfromtheworld.com/
Hi Anna! Thanks a lot 🙂 Hopefully I’ll be able to work my way through the list this year – I’m not doing too badly so far. Happy travels to you too 😀
What great list! Iceland is on my list but probably won’t happen for a year or two. This year is a road trip round Portugal and Spain, spending my birthday in Cordoba and camping weekends around the uk. Everytime I look at travel blogs my list gets longer!!
