One question I always get asked is how do we get to the airports? What is the best way of doing it? Over the years I’ve used taxis, trains, drop-offs from friends and buses. Though, without a doubt, my favourite way is Railair. That’s why I was thrilled when they reached out and asked me to review their Railair Reading to London Heathrow service before our trip to Mauritius. Let me tell you a bit about this service and why I recommend it to anybody in the Reading area.
Railair Reading to London Heathrow
Booking and Pricing
Whilst I worked with Railair for this blog post, I have used them frequently in the past. My experience booking has always been really easy. You simply go onto the Railair website and plug in your preferences. You also don’t have to travel from Reading; they also run from Guildford, Watford and Woking.
The prices for Railair are also really reasonable. Plus, if you have a Railcard, you can get your usual discount (which I would highly recommend).
Usually, for a Flexi Return with a Railcard, you are looking at £30.00. When you compare this with a Taxi, this is excellent value. Whilst other forms of public transport may also be cheaper, Railair drops you straight off at the Terminal. Plus, when you come back, the service runs mostly throughout the day and night. When we came back from almost 24 hours travelling from Thailand to Gatwick, we had to wait until 10:00 for a train, which really was not fun.
Overall, I think that the booking and pricing system used by Railair is excellent. If you are in the Reading area and are flying from Heathrow, I think that this is the most cost-efficient way.
Railair Lounge
Just a quick little bit about the Railair lounge. I think that a holiday/ trip abroad is an occasion and am really glad that Railair agrees.
Before your transfer, you can head to the lounge in Reading station. This is really quite nice and you can treat yourself to hot drinks. Plus, you can bring in snacks from the nearby venues to really set yourself up for the journey.
Definitely a major plus of taking Railair over the other forms of transport. A small but impactful touch.
The Bus and Service
Our experience with Railair Reading to London Heathrow was really positive. Railair describe their coaches as “smart, stylish and extremely comfortable”. Firstly, I completely agree with this statement. I am always surprised by how luxurious the coach really is. The seats are really cosy and are perfect for when you have a late journey. There are also seats of four around a table for those group journeys.
We caught Railair from Reading in the late afternoon. Our flight left at 06:55 and so we thought it would be best to get a hotel at Heathrow the night before. It was completely stress-free and it was a simple process of loading our luggage onto the bus and then taking our seats.
I quickly relaxed and I had a lot of leg-room, which is really important. It felt more like a proper transfer that public transportation does not usually offer. You obviously get a more private experience with a taxi, but you are looking at something almost four times the cost overall.
The driver on the bus was really professional and helpful. They were there to answer any questions that the customers had and made us feel welcome. This has been my experience each time I have travelled on Railair.
Overall Verdict
What isn’t to like about the Railair service? For the price, I genuinely believe that Railair presents the best value for money out of all the options. You get stylish and comfortable travel from the station straight to the terminal.
Compared to other options, such as public transport, it really is non-comparable. Whilst the price of Railair is slightly higher than other options, it makes up for it by the simplicity of the entire process.
If you are travelling from Reading to London Heathrow, look no further than Railair. Don’t waste any money on a taxi or private transfer.
