If you’ve been following my blog and/or social media platforms for a while, you’ll be well aware of the fact that I love my photography. That’s probably the reason why I spend so much time on Instagram, scrolling through hundreds of amazing photographs and fuelling my ever increasing wanderlust.
I’ve been working particularly hard this year to improve my photography skills and therefore, I thought it would be rather apt to review my favourite snapshots of 2015.
Enjoy!

My Favourite Photographs
My favourite season this year was undeniably the autumn. Free from the stress of university, I could well and truly enjoy my free time and made the most of it by squeezing in plenty of day trips exploring my local area. Here I am strolling down the Canadian Avenue in Windsor Great Park, admiring the warm golden colours of autumn and enjoying the sounds of crunching leaves beneath my feet.
This shot was taken in Copenhagen during my tour of Scandinavia in the summer. Nearing the end of our city ‘tour’ we decided to head off the main thoroughfare and investigate what lurked in the backstreets behind. Just a few streets back from the main pedestrian shopping street Strøget, we found this beautiful square enclosed by colourful buildings and set up with a handful of cafés and restaurants. Definitely a hidden treasure!
Who doesn’t love the iconic sights of London? I know I certainly do! But my favourite thing to do in the capital is to explore the less touristy neighbourhoods. One of my favourite districts has to be Chelsea, but I rarely ventured far from the main shopping street. Back in the summer I was keen to hunt down parts of Chelsea that offer a different perspective on London life and was not disappointed when I stumbled across this quaint pastel-colour street – you would never imagine that it leads straight onto the King’s Road!
If I asked you to name some of the sights of Dublin, I’m pretty sure doors would not be at the top of your list. Well, when I visited Dublin back in August I had an absolute field day photographing all the wonderful doorways of Georgian Dublin and this one was a particular favourite of mine. Don’t worry, I did visit the main tourist attractions too!
How sweet are these little beach huts dotted along the beach at Travemünde on the German Baltic Coast? I absolutely love the blue and white candy cane design and it certainly transports you back in time to when a trip to the beach was a much classier affair! Unfortunately it wasn’t quite warm enough on the day I visited to persuade me into my bikini!
One of the most magical experiences whilst I was in Istanbul was a trip into the Grand Bazaar. It was the first time I had experienced anything like it and was taken aback by the sheer variety of things one could buy under its roof. From colourful lanterns, oriental rugs, ceramic bowls and dishes, ornate jewellery, to generic souvenirs and imitation designer goods, not to mention edible goodies, herbs and spices and traditional Turkish tea, I don’t think there was much you couldn’t find if you looked!
If I had to pick one place that surprised me the most this year, it would have to be Madeira. The picture perfect Portuguese island gives you a taste of the tropics without the long haul flight, plus with mild weather all year round, you can’t really go wrong. This picture was taken when we visited Camara de Lobos, named after the raft of Sea Lions that once called this fishing village home. I was fascinated by the island’s landscape – the steep hillsides formed into terraces for farming and crops and the unusual fauna and flora that give the island its nickname, the Floating Garden.
Another shot from my Scandinavian tour and my first ever visit to Stockholm, which I fell in love with, by the way. The city is built across a number of islands and separated by sweeping expanses of water – reminiscent of Venice but without the gondolas! This shot back across the water to Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town, was taken from the waterside promenade leading to the city hall.
