In my June life update I mentioned that I was sorting out my summer travel plans and now, just a few days prior to departure, I thought it was about time to share the route with you. We will once again be setting off to Europe with our trusty interrail passes and I’m very excited for a fortnight of culture, history, sunshine (hopefully!) and delicious food!
***
Our journey begins with a night in Brussels and I’m looking forward to my fill of waffles and of course, seeing the gorgeous Grand Place in the city centre. From Brussels we will be travelling through Germany, via Cologne and Munich, to Salzburg where we have two nights to explore the birthplace of Mozart and the setting of my favourite childhood film, the Sound of Music. From Salzburg we will be heading a little further east to the Austrian capital, elegant Vienna.
Even though I’ve visited Vienna a good few times I’m excited to revisit – I’ve even managed to find some things to see which I’ve missed on previous visits and we may even take a trip to nearby Bratislava across the border in Slovakia. After two nights in Vienna, we venture south, through the mountains into bella Italia! Our first stop for three nights is Padua which we plan to use as a base to see the surrounding area – one definite day trip will be Venice.
The next destination is Turin which will be a completely new city for me and one that I know very little about apart from its history as the first capital city of Italy and its links to the film, the Italian Job! After two nights in Turin, we cross the border into France and are planning on stopping in the lakeside town of Aix-les-Bains. This will be another new place for me but from looking at some pictures online I know it is going to be absolutely beautiful! Two nights later we leave the lakeside bound for Lyon where we will spend one night – having visited Lyon last year I’ve decided to take myself back to the pretty old town and will definitely be sampling some more of the tasty Lyonnais cuisine!
Our final stop for the holiday is the one and only Paris and whilst we will only be spending two nights in the city, there is lots that we want to do!
I think it’s safe to say that it is going to be one action-packed holiday and I’m so excited to be back on European turf! If you fancy following my adventure, make sure you head over to my Instagram @thegirlonthemoveblog as I plan to update my feed regularly with lots of pictures!
If you have any tips at all for any of the destinations I’ll be visiting, please do comment below or send me an email. I always love receiving your suggestions and checking them out! Love V x
