Cheltenham is one of my favourite places in the UK. I love the historic elegance of this town, along with the location as a gateway to the Cotswolds and beyond. We like it so much that we even picked it as the location for our ‘Sten Do’ when we were getting married. Because of this and our friends in the town, we often visit and this Spring we decided to stay at the Queens Hotel Cheltenham. This is one of the most famous hotels in the town and is perfectly located. Here is my handy review to help you guys plan your stay.
The Queens Hotel Cheltenham | A Review of this Historic and Unique Hotel
Getting to the Queens Hotel Cheltenham
Getting to Cheltenham is easy. By car, there are plenty of options, which include going down the M5 or along some major A roads. I never find the journey here stressful from Henley and there are also some great places along the way to stop. If you are not driving, then again Cheltenham has a major train line which is accessible from London.
The Queens Hotel is centrally located and sits atop the promenade. The get here, go along the A4015 and turn off into Imperial Square. You will then get to a private car park where you will receive a ticket to give to reception.
Top Tip: make sure you don’t leave without a car parking token if you are driving!
The Rooms at the Queens Hotel Cheltenham
We stayed in a Classic Room when we stayed at the Queens Hotel. This charming room had everything you could want. We had plenty of teas and coffees, along with a cute little area to make them. We also had a large flatscreen TV, comfy bed and a lovely ensuite. All of this was, of course, in the classic contemporary luxury that can only be found in older Georgian buildings.
The room was relatively cheap, coming in at £139.00 a night. For a luxurious hotel in Cheltenham, especially with all that we received here, I thought that was excellent. Plus, it was in a prime location for going out for food and for meeting up with friends.
The Food at the Queens Hotel Cheltenham
The Queens Hotel has one major restaurant in it called Victoria. Named after the famous monarch who frequented the town, the food here surely must be fit for a queen. We decided against eating here for dinner because we wanted to go out and meet friends. However, the menu has plenty of choice and, again, the prices aren’t as expensive as you would expect.
What I can comment on though is the breakfast. This was included in our stay and was quite classic with these larger hotels. The Continental breakfast was good and included everything you might expect. If I am harsh, I would say that there wasn’t as much choice as some other contemporary luxurious hotels I have stayed at. For instance, maybe a few different pastries and yoghurt flavours could add something. The quality though was good and I enjoyed what I ate.
The showstopper though was, of course, the hot option. I opted for the Full English and it arrived fairly quickly. The portion size was fairly good. It wasn’t the largest breakfast I’ve seen and it was perfect for me, but my husband could have eaten some more! I cannot knock the quality though. It was fantastic and it tasted divine.
Service at the Queens Hotel Cheltenham
I found the service excellent at the Queens Hotel. Whether that be through checking-in, being served at the restaurant or simply passing staff, we felt welcomed. We also stayed to visit the Cheese-Rolling and I really appreciated the fact that the reception spoke to my parents about it. They were able to pass on local secrets to help us get the most out of our day. Always the mark of excellence.

The Queens Hotel Cheltenham really hits the spot when it comes to visiting this historic town.
