In the apt location of Christmas Common is the Tree Barn. It is pretty famous in this area. I swear that all of Henley flocks here in early December. I am always one of those people and love the different festive sights. With a festive coffee in hand, we spent a cold Sunday morning here to get ready for the festivities ahead.
The Tree Barn: Getting Festive in Christmas Common
Location & Getting There
The Tree Barn is found in Christmas Common. To get there from Henley, you head towards Nettlebed down the A4130. When you get to Nettlebed, turn right down towards Watlington (B481) and continue down that road. Eventually, you will see signposts to the Tree Barn directing you towards Christmas Common.
The roads are quite windy and muddy, so just come prepared for that. There are also a few quick turnings so you will need to pay attention to the signposts.
Opening Times
The Tree Barn opens early, from Saturday 29th October! That said, if you’re looking to buy your Christmas tree, you will have to wait until Saturday 19th November. The barn and shop are open all week, from 9am to 5.30pm and both have a late night on Thursdays and Fridays until 7.30pm.
The Tree Barn
The Tree Barn is most famous for the Christmas trees that it produces. Whilst I always think that it is slightly wasteful, they have a good variety of species here. The prices are also very reasonable too. I would however suggest that you get yours sooner rather than later as these fly out of the barn.
The barn itself is quite nice to walk around. You can browse the different trees on offer and choose the best one for you. There are also hot drinks for sale, as well as Christmas wreaths.
Make sure that you bring a coat for this as it gets pretty chilly in the barn! All of the heaters are in the shop and it can take a while to prepare your tree. Once you have purchased it, the staff are very helpful in loading it for you.
Christmas Shop

My favourite part of the Tree Barn is the Christmas Shop. It is rather small, so be prepared to fight a crowd slightly. Besides that, they have everything that you could possibly want at this time of the year.
I treated myself to a few felt animals as they are just lovely on my tree! I picked up a beautiful blue whale to hang up on the tree and he joins the fox, owl, bear and turtle, amongst others. It is an eclectic mix, I admit, but I really like them.
There are also lots of different lights that you can buy, as well as faux festive plants and decorations. The prices are not too bad either and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are also really friendly and help keep children feel festive.
The Atmosphere
The atmosphere of the Tree Barn is great and really gets you feeling festive. I just love this time of year and selecting a tree on a cold grey morning brings back lots of childhood memories.
It is very busy though. This is great for the local business, but it does mean that the experience feels chaotic. Nonetheless, it is a rite-of-passage in Oxfordshire and I would thoroughly recommend the Tree Barn. Even if you are not buying anything, it really gets you into the spirit of Christmas spirit.
